Wiley Hall Auditorium – Thursday, January 21, 2010 – 7:30 p.m.

The American Shakespeare Center will present William Shakespeare’s bittersweet comedy, “All’s Well That Ends Well,” Thursday, Jan. 21, at Emory & Henry College.

The College was selected by the Staunton, Va. theatre group as a participant in the Shakespeare company’s “2010 Rough, Rude and Boisterous Virginia Tour. The performance, which begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Wiley Hall Auditorium at Emory & Henry, is supported provided by a grant from the Altria Group Inc.

“This Shakespeare moves…It is poetry come alive,” according to The Boston Globe, and is“shamelessly entertaining,” says National Public Radio.

In this funny and wise play, Shakespeare paints a sly portrait of the human condition in all its motley colors. As her reward for curing the King of France of an unsettling affliction, the clever and tenacious Helen receives the hand of Bertram, her heart’s desire. Unfortunately, Bertram’s heart has other desires.

In its world of soldiers and clowns, countesses and commoners, “All’s Well That Ends Well” tricks us into believing that lies are true and that truth is fantasy—a dark fairy-tale filled with laughter, miracles and rebirth.

This performance of the American Shakespeare Center on Tour in Virginia is funded by a grant from the Altria Group, Inc.

Tickets are free of charge to E&H faculty, staff and students; other adults are $8.00 in advance and $10.00 at the door. Students from other institutions are $3.00 each. Call 276.944.6846 for information and/or tickets.
