After being shut out last week against Randolph-Macon, E&H’s football team focused on offense in practice this past week, and it showed. The Wasps’ offense registered 34 points against visiting Bridgewater College, but the Eagles managed 38 and earned the victory. The loss is Emory & Henry’s third straight, and their record falls to 4-3, 0-3 in ODAC play.

Things started out well for E&H, as Caleb Moore returned the opening kickoff to Bridgewater’s 36 yard line. Running back Caleb Jennings then took the Wasps’ first play from scrimmage into the endzone, giving E&H a 7-0 lead.

The Eagles’ Thomas Tate responded with a 15-yard touchdown run of his own, but Jennings found the endzone again in the first stanza, this time from five yards out, and the Wasps had a 14-7 advantage at the end of the quarter.

E&H’s next score came with 35 seconds remaining in the first half when Josh Castle hit receiver Fred George with a 63-yard TD pass. Halftime came with the score 20-10 in the Wasps’ favor.

Bridgewater (5-2, 2-1 ODAC) came out strong after the break, crossing the goal line three straight times to take a 31-20 lead. At the end of the quarter, Jennings scored on a 42-yard jaunt for his third touchdown of the contest.

At the 8:34 mark in the fourth quarter, E&H signal caller Drew Piscopo found Cain Ringstaff on a four yard toss, and then again for the two-point conversion to put the Wasps up three. However, on the Eagles’ ensuing drive, the Emory & Henry defense again folded, as Tate scored from 54 yards out to give Bridgewater the lead and the win.

E&H plays again Saturday at Catholic University in Washington D.C. The Wasps’ next home game is November 7, when they will host Washington & Lee.
