Volleyball takes down Roanoke

E&H senior Twyla Sessor
Emory & Henry’s volleyball team defeated Roanoke College in a five game thriller Wednesday night, moving to 13-4 overall and 2-3 in ODAC play. The Wasps’ Twyla Sessor, a senior, notched 23 digs en route to setting an ODAC record with 1,794 digs for her career. The mark was previously held by Randolph-Macon’s Michelle Kutcher, who graduated in 2007.
The host Wasps won the first game 25-21, but lost the next two by a count of 21-25 and 23-25, respectively. Behind the defensive play of Sessor and Erin Holben, who recorded 13 digs, the Wasps held on to win the fourth game 25-23 and the fifth 15-10.
On offense, E&H was led by Rachel Fertitta, who had 23 kills and five blocks, and Kim Caudill, who registered 20 kills. Sophomore setter Ashley Masterson tallied 50 assists.
Wasps volleyball is next in action on Friday, when they host Southern Virginia University in the “Dig Pink” game, which will honor the College’s legendary basketball coach, the late Bob Johnson. Proceeds from the game will go to the Side-Out Foundation, a recreational volleyball organization formed to raise breast cancer awareness.
