Johnson Becomes New Member of Football Staff
Shannon Johnson returned home to Emory & Henry to join the Football staff.
Johnson played quarterback for the Wasps from 1999-2002 and was part of the last ODAC Championship team at Emory & Henry. He was a three year starter for the Wasps compiling a 25-15 record and one conference championship.
Johnson will primarily coach wide receivers and assist with quarterbacks and tight ends.
Head Coach Don Montgomery said he is pleased with the addition of Johnson to the coaching staff, “Coach Johnson brings far more to the table than just being a football coach, he will be a great mentor and role model for all of our student athletes.”
Johnson has coached at Christopher Newport University, Hampden-Sydney College, Buckingham County, Alleghany and Slippery Rock High School. Johnson was also part of a conference championship campaign with Christopher Newport.
“It’s good to give back to the program and help reestablish the tradition of the past.” Johnson says as he looks forward to coaching at his alma mater.
“It’s a great tribute to Emory & Henry and great honor for Shannon Johnson to return to his alma mater,” Coach Montgomery said.
